Access flooring, also known as raised access flooring, is a type of construction that is laid on top of the floor in order to unify the floor surface.

Its use is very popular, especially in office buildings, as it is an economical and comfortable alternative to other types of flooring. In this post we are going to tell you about some of its advantages. We will also tell you about the types of access floor we have at DESMON. Finally, we will discuss how to install it.

We hope to solve all your doubts.

WHAT IS ACCESS FLOORING AND WHAT IS IT FOR?

Accessible flooring is a floor that sits on a metal frame that is laid on top of the original floor. There are different types, but the most common is in the form of square tiles.

Once laid, between the access floor and the original floor there is a fully operational space through which installations and wiring for different functions usually pass.

Precisely, it is called accessible flooring because it allows the installation of registers. That is, boxes that fit into the floor and house the wiring controls. They can also house sound systems or even heating systems that can be installed under the floor.

Raised access flooring (PER) is an excellent solution for offices and service rooms that require the concealment of installations in an orderly and accessible manner. This raised access floor allows the distribution of installations such as telephony, electricity, data networks, pipes, air conditioning, etc., under the floor of offices, work areas or any technical space.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ACCESS FLOORING

One of the uses of accessible flooring is to conceal the wiring of entire buildings. The advantage of doing it this way is that it makes it easier to check the installations.

The installation and dismantling of this type of floor is very simple. Simply lift the floor bales and remove the adjustable brackets. In case you want to level or repair the original floor, the accessibility is very easy. No debris is generated and no costly masonry work is necessary.

ADVANTAGES OF INSTALLING PORCELAIN TILE FLOORS

Raised floor tiles are usually made of plastic material with a wooden core. However, it is also possible to lay porcelain floor tiles. This is undoubtedly a good choice because this material can bear a lot of weight and is very resistant.

Similarly, it is also possible to change the surface by applying vinyl, carpet or even wood laminate to give it the appearance of parquet.

Take a look at the structure of the tiles on the product page dedicated to raised access flooring.

We can therefore recapitulate the most interesting advantages of raised access flooring:

  • It hides the wiring (this is why it is also called conductive raised access floor) and the result that remains visible is totally aesthetic and hygienic.
  • High level of customisation, as you can give it the appearance of any type of floor such as marble, stone or wood.
  • Easy to check installations and quick accessibility by simply lifting the corresponding tile.
  • If you opt for porcelain flooring, you will have a fire-resistant material and a great thermal insulator. This is because, by leaving a space between the normal floor and the modular removable floor, the cold is prevented from creeping directly towards our feet.

PROJECTS OF CLEARING WITH SCREEDED PAVING

DESMON has supplied and installed 200 m2 of modular demountable flooring in a new construction project. In this case a type of engineered wood flooring was installed. It is made from calcium sulphate and finished with HPL high-pressure laminate. Imitating parquet, the raised floor was installed perfectly in various parts of the office where there were areas with curved walls.

The client was interested in having a floor that would conceal the installations and at the same time provide good accessibility in the event that repairs or changes to the wiring were necessary.

WHY CHOOSE A FLOATING FLOOR?

Accessible floorings are the best solution for any building that requires the passage of installations. They are composed of modular tiles, generally 600×600 mm, on a raised metal structure. Raised access floor panels are interchangeable and can be assembled and disassembled ‘dry’.

Desmon porcelain raised floors are marketed in various finishes. These include laminates, high pressure laminate (HPL) or linoleum tiles.

In addition, it is also possible to manufacture pieces from natural granite, porcelain stoneware, rubber, parquet, PVC, steel sheet, aluminium sheet, etc.
