Office styles – How to decorate your office?

OFFICE STYLES. HOW TO DECORATE YOUR OFFICE?

Estilos de oficinas

There are many office styles but it is important to choose one that fits with the company’s philosophy and business. In addition, it is advisable that the decoration of the environment facilitates the work of the employees. At the same time, the office style should convey confidence and effectiveness to potential visitors or clients. Finally, it is always best to work in a comfortable, functional and healthy environment. If a balance between these factors is achieved, the office style will be the right one.

At DESMON we are specialists in office furniture and have accumulated a lot of experience in the creation of workspaces. Our 50 years of experience have allowed us to develop projects in different office styles. We have dealt with the fitting out of offices in minimalist, industrial or more conservative styles. We have also carried out unique works in avant-garde offices.

In all these projects we have optimised the available space and created a comfortable space for the employees. Ergonomic and healthy furniture with hidden but accessible facilities have been the touchstone.

With this article we want to give you options for different office styles. It is then up to you to choose the one that best suits your company’s needs and the dimensions of the available space.

OFFICE STYLES FOR EVERY BUSINESS

It goes without saying that the type of business will greatly influence the decoration of the space. This is an idea that is worth bearing in mind before going through the different office styles. A graphic design company will not have the same style as a tax consultancy.

It is important to take into account what the client is looking for and adapt the visual image of the premises to the type of business.

MINIMALIST STYLE FOR YOUR OFFICES

The minimalist style is one of the most common when it comes to decorating offices. It is all about giving the space all the prominence. This means making the most of natural light, eliminating barriers and opting for a simple, uncluttered style.

In a minimalist office there are no walls. This means that the installation of barriers is ruled out and the view can reach the full extent of the office. In the hypothetical case that you need some privacy for your work, you can opt for the installation of movable partitions. This accessory can be unfolded to create a confined space and folded down to enjoy a partition-free office again.

The minimalist style furniture is designed with straight lines and only those pieces that are strictly necessary for work. Sure, the colours are neutral and white dominates the rest, which can be grey or light brown.

The materials will be natural such as wood with a marked grain and cement, stone or plaster may be present on walls and floors. In conclusion, the minimalist style seeks the elegance of simplicity.

INDUSTRIAL STYLE OFFICE

The industrial style in offices has its origins in the use of industrial factories for the installation of offices. Certainly, the space is already available and it is a question of fitting it out to move from a mechanical and industrial activity to a place where administrative and creative tasks are carried out.

One of the most common features of the industrial style is that it has spaces with high ceilings and primary materials such as metal or cement. Well, industrial style offices take advantage of all these factors. Brick or stone walls are retained, and the fixtures and plumbing are left exposed. The same goes for the beams: the bigger and more conspicuous, the better, because they will be visible.

Doors and windows are wide and the glass is framed in metal. Large windows in dark iron or black are a classic in this style of decoration. Also, metal cabinets and shelves are placed and complemented with some solid, real wood. Placing metal mezzanines that reinforce the industrial past is a valid option because it also increases the space. Finally, with regard to colours, the basic colour is grey, which harks back to the industrial past of the space. It is complemented by whites, blacks and metallic tones. If you are looking for modern office styles, industrial style is one of them.

CONSERVATIVE ENGLISH STYLE

There are those who would label the English style as old-fashioned and overdone. However, it has its followers and they value the quality of the furniture above all else. The English style is sober and far removed from modern lines. Floral patterns and stripes are very common, as well as golden tones. The floor is usually covered with marble and the space is decorated with wool carpets, worked cornices and decorative motifs that transport us to antiquity.

Wood is the material of choice for furniture. Plastic, glass and metal are not part of the English style. Wood and leather are also omnipresent in armchairs and sofas. Similarly, a fully valid option in the English style is to line the walls with wood. Furniture is of high quality, robust and solid. Chandeliers are very common and there should always be curtains made of heavy fabrics.

The finishing touch to an English style office would be the fireplace. In short, the English style will create a traditional, austere office where elegance comes from the high quality of the wooden furniture.

VINTAGE STYLE OFFICE

Do you like objects designed and manufactured in bygone eras? If the answer is yes, you are a candidate to decorate your office in vintage style. The truth is that vintage style has certain connections with industrial style. This similarity lies, for example, in the exposed brick and brickwork walls. On the other hand, the vintage style is reflected in upholstery and designs that were already used in offices in the 50s, 60s or 70s. The truth is that visiting a vintage style office is like taking a leap back in time and appearing in offices from the second half of the 20th century.

The decorative pieces also have a certain antique feel to them. It is common to place antique lamps, typewriters or lecterns to place open books on certain pages. You should bear in mind that designs made in the 50s, 60s or 70s of the 20th century were sometimes a little uncomfortable. For this reason, you should consider whether using a chair from that time would be suitable if you are going to spend many hours in the office. Perhaps, in that detail, you should give up that piece and have a modern computer chair that respects your back.

BOHO CHIC STYLE FOR THE MODERN OFFICE

Finally, we talk about one of the most bohemian office styles. This is the boho chic style for offices. It’s important to note that it’s bohemian but it’s also chic. That is to say, everything has a carefully studied spring and multicultural patina.

So a boho chic office is a mix of bright, bohemian and even hippie styles. Arab, Asian and African influences can be seen in the accessories. For example, the shades are pastel colours such as beige, off-white or light brown. Rugs with geometric shapes or ethnic motifs are indispensable for floor coverings. Handmade tapestries with nature-related motifs are also used.

The furniture in a boho chic office is simple and functional. Forget stiff and heavy sofas. In this case you can opt for armchairs, chaise longues or poufs that allow you to sit or rest in a casual way. Wardrobes can have an aged and worn look and be combined with mirrors framed in wood.

The boho chic style is very natural and includes vegetable fibres, leather, cotton, handmade ceramic pieces or self-made lamps. Boho chic offices are often open-plan offices that combine the best of Marrakech, California and Asian beaches – it’s a great way to work!
